We received photos from one of our patients Gina Kothe, while on a trek. Below is the start of an article written about her and another team member in SELF magazine.

*Summiting Gannett Peak, the highest point of Wyoming, is no easy feat for even the most experienced climbers. Part of the Wind River Range, the journey to the top requires hiking through glaciers and across boulder fields, among other natural challenges.

Last month a team of eleven wounded veterans set off on that very journey. The expedition, Warriors to Summits, was sponsored by Wells Fargo & Company and offered through No Barriers Warriors, a program that seeks to help injured veterans overcome post-service challenges and surpass their limits.

SELF spoke with the team’s two female members—Janet Gonzalez, who served in the army and sustained shoulder and hip injuries, and Gina Kothe, who lost her right leg while serving as a firefighter after honorable discharge from the army—about what it took to reach their own peak, and what their incredible accomplishment means to them.
